The product opportunities and applications for this amazing material are numerous. The Pristina™ advantages include:

Manufacturing process: Pristina™ Aerogels are manufactured utilizing a water-based process allowing for lower pricing and makes both the product and the process environmentally friendly.

Custom design: Pristina™ Aerogels are available as powder, granules, beads, or extruded forms. TAASI can customize Pristina™ Aerogel in a form that meets your specific application needs.

Application Patent: TAASI holds the application patent for the use of Aerogels in the removal of pollutants from water and air. The most common application of Pristina™ Aerogel is in water and air filtration devices, replacing or augmenting activated carbon.

Side by Side Testing: Side by side testing reveals the following advantages of Pristina™ Aerogels over carbon adsorbents:
Pristina™ Aerogels are highly competitive Volatile Organic Compound adsorbents
Aerogels have 25% faster desorption
Adsorption of Volatile Organic Compound is not adversely affected by prior steam Adsorption
Inorganic Pristina™ Aerogels (metal oxides) are not combustible or oxidizible
Desorption of Volatile Organic Compound by warm air (50 ƒC) is possible

Recyclable and Biocompatible:Pristina™ Aerogels can be recycled and reused.

Safe Alternative to Carbon: A petrochemical refinery observed that the temperature rise due to use of carbon for adsorption of VOC's (predominantly benzene & toluene) was uncomfortably close to the autoignition temperature of adsorbed benzene & other VOC's (350-400° F), leading to a risk of a major fire in the refinery.
Tests on a Pristina™ Aerogel adsorbent showed temperature rise of only 3.5 °F per 1% wt. adsorption loading. Thus, at a 12 % wt. loading, the temperature rise would be only 42 °F. Use of TAASI's Pristina™ Aerogel adsorbent as a replacement to carbon reduces fire risks dramatically.

Physical Strength: Independent testing showed that the crush strength of TAASI's fabricated Aerogel products (3 mm size beads) range from 9 - 14 Lbƒ(pound-force) with an overall average of 11.5 Lbƒ. The Aerogel Products were very hard, and were not adversely affected by bulk water.

Versatile Chemical Structures: Versatile chemical structures enable the design of selective Aerogel products for targeted applications.

Environment Friendly, User Friendly: Use of TAASI Aerogels in the fabrication of Controlled Release Products was preferred over carbon black due to its performance, user ease, and environmental safety.

Economics: TAASI's proprietary production system enables the Aerogel products to be competitively priced on a performance-cost basis. One scenario using TAASI Pristina™ Aerogel indicated 34% saving on total levelelized cost of scrubbing SO2 from flue gas, and 40% cost saving on both SO2 and NOx scrubbing, compared with conventional scrubbers in power plants. Another application scenario using Pristina™ Aerogel adsorbents for VOC's adsorption and subsequent solvent recovery, indicated 42 % - 58 % saving in Sorbent Replacement Cost, and 6 -18% overall process cost saving, compared with carbon.
